The rate scale will be decided after receipt of the material and a brief review as to the level of work required. There will be an increase in rate of $1 per page for a short turn-around time that requires evening or weekend work.
A free estimate will be provided, along with a letter of agreement as to turn-around time and payment. Payment is by check, cash, or money order. PayPal is available for a surcharge. The surcharge will be waived if the rate per page has been increased for a short turn-around time, as above.
New customers submitting work that is more than four pages receive one free page of editing before committing to the project. Work that is two to four pages will still receive one page before committing, but there will be a charge for that page if hired.
Light copyediting involves spelling, punctuation, and grammar correction, as well as simple word use (i.e.: principle vs. principal).
Medium/full copyediting, in addition to the above, addresses such things as: consistency of abbreviation and number usage; sentence structure that is grammatically correct but awkward; repetition; and evaluation for logical, clear and consistent content. Also, all technical writing falls under this category. This is where the range comes in. A well written, well formatted work may still require all of these things but not be at the highest price level. Work that isn't even divided into chapters yet or has major formatting issues, or work that still requires intensive collaboration and changes re: content may well require the highest price listed.
Note: Goldin Copyediting Services cannot guarantee the success of a project or be held responsible for the actions of the mail delivery service. There are no refunds unless work paid for is not returned at this end. This is why e-mail is strongly recommended. If you send hard copy, you may pay an extra fee for me to make a copy of the final edited pages before I return them (in case there is a problem with the mail). This charge will cover the paper, the ink and my time.
